MEMA Sustainability Hour: Emissions Data
Tracking supplier emissions is nothing new in the automotive industry, as up to 90% of total emissions are found within the supply chain. Many automotive OEMs are struggling to link their aspirational sustainability goals with actionable insights and evidence backed data from suppliers. As a result, OEMs are requesting suppliers to provide verified product carbon footprints along with an emission reduction strategy in order to measure and plan for the carbon footprint of each vehicle produced.
Industry experts from Glassdome explained the difference between company/factory level emissions, Life Cycle Assessments and Product Carbon Footprints, what is required for ISO 14067 verification, and why product carbon footprints are the most "apples to apples" comparison metric for manufacturers. We also touched on how capturing primary data plays an important role in calculating your product carbon footprint (PCF) while also laying the groundwork for peer benchmarking and monitoring emission reduction.
