MEMA, The Vehicle Suppliers Association, Joins Industry Leaders in Urging Resolution to East Coast and Gulf Coast Port Negotiations
WASHINGTON, D.C. – MEMA, The Vehicle Suppliers Association and 267 organizations have signed a letter led by the National Retail Federation urging the International Longshoremen's Association and the United States Maritime Alliance to return to the table and work toward a resolution before the January 15, 2025, contract expiration date. This collective action underscores the significant and far-reaching impact a prolonged dispute would have on the U.S. economy, supply chains, and the industries that depend on these critical trade hubs.
On behalf of its members, MEMA has remained engaged on this critical concern throughout the year and has continued to lend its voice to calls for a permanent resolution to the negotiations. The letter reflects the unified voice of industry associations advocating for dialogue and resolution during this pivotal moment. MEMA recognizes that a resolution is essential to maintaining a healthy supply chain, especially as the vehicle supplier industry continues to recover from pandemic-related disruptions and other economic pressures.
"This issue is of critical importance to our members and the broader U.S. economy," said Bill Long, president and CEO of MEMA. "We applaud the 267 associations who have joined this effort, underscoring the urgent need for both parties to work together and find a path forward. Vehicle suppliers are deeply affected by supply chain challenges, and a prolonged port disruption would only compound these issues."
MEMA's participation in this effort is part of its ongoing commitment to advocating for solutions that support the vehicle supplier industry and the communities it serves. The association remains actively engaged in monitoring developments and encouraging stakeholders to collaborate for the benefit of all industries reliant on a stable and efficient supply chain.
MEMA will continue to keep its members updated on any and all critical developments on this issue. For more information, contact Bill Frymoyer, MEMA's vice president of public policy.
