MEMA Supports Quick Passage of the House CHIPS Act, Including Legacy CHIP Provision

The Motor and Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) today announced its support of House passage of the critical $52 billion Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors for America (CHIPS) Act, including $2 billion reserved for motor vehicle grade mature node chips. That measure is contained within the broad America COMPETES Act, the House version of the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act (USICA), which passed the Senate (68-32) in June 2021. 

“MEMA supports quick House passage of the CHIPS Act as the crisis in the semiconductor chip supply chain continues unabated in 2022 for motor vehicle parts manufacturers. That measure offers the best prospect for medium term relief,” noted Bill Long, MEMA President and CEO.

“We are especially grateful for Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo’s leadership in getting the important CHIPS Act over the finish in the House as soon as possible. When enacted, this will help level the semiconductor playing field for the U.S. with competitors around the globe,” Long concluded.
