MEMA Responds to Trump Administration Decision to Remove Threat of Tariffs on Aluminum from Canada
MEMA President and CEO Bill Long states:
The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association has been a powerful voice for suppliers, working collaboratively with the administration, especially on trade policy and tariffs on aluminum exports from Canada. As such, we applaud the U.S. and Canada for working together to eliminate the threat of Section 232 tariffs on aluminum. This is a positive step in the right direction. MEMA has clearly demonstrated the negative impact of tariff to the motor vehicle parts supplier industry, which is the largest sector of manufacturing jobs in the United States. Especially at a time when the industry is facing significant economic challenges, it is important that the U.S. not impose tariffs that increase manufacturing costs and reduce manufacturing competitiveness. MEMA will continue to closely monitor the issue as it evolves.
