MEMA Mourns the Loss of Senator Lugar
The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) extends condolences to the many friends and family of Senator Richard Lugar (R-Indiana), who died peacefully at home on April 28. Senator Lugar, whose state has more than 88,000 residents who are directly employed by motor vehicle parts suppliers, was a supporter of the motor vehicle parts supplier industry and worked with MEMA on a wide range of issues, including fuel efficiency standards and workforce development.
“Over his six terms, Senator Lugar was a steadfast friend to the supplier community and showed us again and again that he supported us as an important employer in his state. He knew and understood our industry, and we are grateful for the time and care he took to help our members grow in Indiana,” said MEMA President and CEO Bill Long.
Senator Lugar was the longest-serving U.S. senator in the history of Indiana and a one-time presidential candidate. He was 87. A full report is available here.
